Pension Club International Launches: Redefining Retirement for a New Generation

Updated: Oct 14

The Nairobi Club was a buzz with optimism and purpose as Pension Club International (PCI) was officially launched in a historic event that brought together industry leaders, partners, and pioneers united by a shared mission to redefine retirement as a season of renewal, dignity, and fulfillment.

The ceremony was graced by distinguished guests, including Chief Guest Dr. James Mwangi, CBS, Group CEO of Equity Bank, PCI Board Chairperson Geoffrey Odundo, Patron Dr. Julius Kipngetich, and the Dream Carrier and Vision Bearer, Dr. Hosea Kili, MBS. Also present were leaders from Kalbo Adventures, House of Procurement, AIESEC, SQOO, UNICAF, Nation Media Group, Equity Bank Group, pensioners from various institutions, students from Upper Hill School and founding PCI members.

The Birth of a Dream

In his moving address, Dr. Hosea Kili, the Dream Carrier of PCI, reflected on the inspiration that birthed the idea of Pension Club International — a response to the challenges many individuals face as they transition into retirement.

“I noticed that many hardworking people, teachers, civil servants, entrepreneurs , spend their lives building careers and families, yet when retirement comes, too often they face uncertainty, isolation, or regret,” said Dr. Kili. “I asked myself: must it be this way? Can we create a community where people approach retirement with confidence instead of anxiety?”

That question, he shared, became a conviction and that conviction gave birth to PCI.

PCI was founded to redefine retirement not as withdrawal, but as renewal a holistic platform designed to empower members through financial knowledge, wellness, social connection, and lifelong learning.

PCI Secretariat Presentation

The PCI Secretariat, led by Marion Nyariki, took the guest through an engaging presentation outlining the key pillars that guide Pension Club International’s mission: Lifestyle Planning, Membership Engagement, and Golden Serviced Residences.

The discussion highlighted how these pillars collectively aim to promote financial literacy, active member participation, and sustainable post-retirement living. The Secretariat also emphasized PCI’s core values of Accountability, Community, Empowerment, and Innovation, which underpin all its programs and initiatives.

Additionally, the guest was briefed on the wide range of member benefits, including access to expert insights on retirement planning, networking opportunities with professionals and retirees, mentorship programs, and exclusive events that support personal and financial growth.

The presentation concluded by explaining PCI’s target groups, students, young professionals, mid-career employees, and retirees, illustrating how each group can gain tailored value from being part of the club.

“From financial institutions to healthcare providers, collaboration is key. Together, we can create value that no single organization can deliver alone,” he said, extending an open invitation to potential partners to join PCI in its mission of transforming retirement into a season of empowerment and joy.

Remarks by the Chief Guest – Dr. James Mwangi, CBS

Taking the podium, Dr. James Mwangi, Group CEO of Equity Group, lauded the launch of PCI as a visionary milestone and a timely intervention in addressing the realities of retirement in modern society.

“It is no small feat to take a bold idea, nurture it, and bring it to life. That is exactly what PCI has achieved today,” Dr. Mwangi remarked, commending Dr. Kili for his foresight and leadership.

He underscored the importance of preparedness in retirement, noting that too many people enter this phase unready, financially, socially, and emotionally.

“Retirement should be a season of fulfillment, not fear. A season of dignity, reflection, and new opportunities. That is why PCI’s mission is so important,” he emphasized.

Dr. Mwangi praised PCI’s holistic approach, highlighting that it is not just about savings or pensions, but about people and purpose.

“PCI is about creating a community where members can learn, share experiences, and encourage one another; providing financial literacy; offering mentorship; and ensuring that retirement is seen not as an end, but as a beginning.”

He went on to note that when people are prepared for retirement, entire societies benefit — families become stronger, communities thrive, and generations connect through shared wisdom.

A Movement, Not Just a Milestone

In a passionate call to action, Dr. Mwangi urged individuals, organizations, and policymakers to walk with PCI in building a better future:

Individuals – to join and actively engage with the community.Partner organizations – to contribute expertise, resources, and networks.Policymakers – to support initiatives that strengthen the nation’s social and economic fabric.

“Today, we are not just launching an organization,” he declared, “we are launching a vision, a dream, and a commitment to a better future. With the right support, PCI can become a leading voice across Africa and beyond, setting new standards in retirement preparedness and lifelong community building.”

He concluded with a powerful message:

“When we invest in today’s wisdom, we secure tomorrow’s freedom. This is the promise of PCI.”

The Dream Ahead

Both speakers shared a common conviction, that retirement is not the end of the road, but a bend in the road.

With PCI’s launch, Kenya and Africa take a bold step toward transforming retirement into a vibrant season of renewal, connection, and contribution.

As Dr. Kili put it:

“Together, we will make retirement a season worth celebrating. Together, we will build a legacy that will outlive us all.”
